For the framework of adopting Global Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) approved from United Nations General Assembly in 2015, Mongolia has articulated its long-term sustainable development plan into “Mongolian Sustainable Development Vision 2030”, which align with 17 goals of SDG. The Parliament of Mongolia approved “Mongolian Sustainable Development Vision 2030” during the meeting of February 2016.
The United Nations mission in Ulaanbaatar and Asian Development Bank (ADB) have been supporting the Government of Mongolia on establishment of the key building blocks for the implementation of the 2030 Agenda in Mongolia. In the framework of this establishment, United Nations Development Program is aiding in the preparatory activities. Also, National Statistics Office of Mongolia and Mongolian National Development Agency are receiving technical assistance from ADB and supports on measuring SDG from UNICEF and UNFPA.
The team from United Nations mission in Ulaanbaatar, the Government of Mongolia and International Financial Institute are jointly supporting the continuation of previous cooperation achievements of last decade into contribution towards important health and social sectors. To provide comprehensive knowledge, relatively extensive experience and strong evidence-based advices in its expertise areas, the UN jointly with inter-agencies (UNFPA, UNICEF and WHO in the lead) concluded to carry out an in-depth analysis on the budget of social sector.
Ms. Ariunzaya Ayush, Chairperson of NSO, met with Ms. Beate Trankmann, United Nations Resident Coordinator and UN Development programme resident representative, Mr. Degol Hailu, Economist and senior Advisor, Addis Ababa Regional Center, (Mission Lead), Mr. Tim Scott, Policy advisor environment, Ms. Wendy Walker, Technical advisor/Social development, ADB HQ in Manila (Team Leader), Mr. Anderson Stanciole, Health economics advisor, UNFPA Regional Office for the Asia and the Pacific, Mr. Jun Fan, Social policy specialist, East Asia Pacific Regional Office.
After first meeting between the United Nations mission and the ADB Resident Mission to Mongolia, the “core team” composed of experts from ADB, UNDP, UNFPA, UNICEF respective expertise areas discussed with team of MAPS mission on cooperation on to support the identification of policy options and priority areas for investment to accelerate progress towards the SDGs, with particular emphasis on the social sector. During the discussion, they have evaluated and assess of the SDGs that what was needed, challenges and further collaboration.
Ms. Ariunzaya Ayush, Chairperson of NSO, stated that I would like to thank you for collaboration with International organizations in order to recover and strengthen economy of Mongolia currently facing economic slowdown. It is important that your investment, support and assistance used effectively and properly, as well as, expanding our cooperation and coordination. It is important that linking with policy maker’s decision, in terms of investment, environment and social economics for the development of a more diversified economy.
It is important that National Statistics Office in implementation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) in Mongolia that to provide socio-economic issues. In this regard, the National Statistical Office organized national forum "Sustainable Development-Statistics" in November 13-14, 2017.
