Ms. Ariunzaya Ayush, Chairperson of National Statistics Office of Mongolia (NSO) met Nail O‘Hanlon, who is working with NSO in this week. Specifically, Mr.Nail is contributing significantly to improving housing price index statistics and strengthening capacity of NSO staffs about price statistics, consumer price index and manufacturing price index’s from service sector.
His consultancy will focus on improving the calculation methodology and approaches of housing price index to be acceptable for current conditions of property market and international standards, updating and upgrading questionnaire forms and weights, and assessing possible data sources. Except that, he will give some opinion on difficulties and challenges from manufacturing price index of serving sector for its development.
Housing price index (HPI) is started to being estimated quarterly from 2008, by data collected from 6 districts of Ulaanbaatar. For HPI, base year, there is a need to update and improve its classification, questionnaire and methodology and NSO are working to complete this need in this year.
Historically, cooperation between NSO and IMF were started from 1991. Ms. Ariunzaya said that, in this long period of cooperation, IMF consultancy services were very important and she expressed her deepest gratitude on continuation of this fruitful cooperation.
